Power cord, a short serial cable, and (usually) a DVD containing a telescopeĬontrol program-the First Light Edition of TheSky X at the time I bought my The mount comes with a single 11-pound counterweight, a DC Much of the summer of 2013, and I didn’t get a chance to see what my new rig could do under dark skies for quite a while. That’s what I intended, anyhow the weather gods had other I was shortly able to get the AVX and Edge down to Chiefland, Florida, to the Chiefland Astronomy Village for a ChieflandĤth of July and a good shakedown cruise, though. I missed taking the mount to the Spring 2013 Deep South Star Gaze Spring Scrimmage-the replacement arrived justĪ little too late-and I used good old reliable CG5 with the Edge 800 instead. Panasonic and let them keep it for a month or so while they fixed it, wouldīe that as it may, things began looking up after the second AVX arrived.

If you bought a big screen TV at BestBuy or HH GreggĪnd it was dead out of the box, you wouldn’t agree to ship it to LG or

Insist on a replacement, an immediate replacement,įrom them or your dealer.

Above all, if you receive a mount that is bad out ofĬelestron fix it for you. My experience and the experiences of more than a few other purchasers show Celestron's QA can be spotty to the point of nonexistent. While most people will not have a problem with their new AVX, And I just felt like Iĭeserved a retirement telescope, e’en at the somewhat young retirement age of The Edge 800 with its off-white tube was just so pretty, too. For one, I wasĪttracted by the better field edge offered by Celestron’s corrected Edge SCTs.įor another, Celestron always gives you a real good deal if you buy a The time, I had three freaking C8s, and my most used one, Celeste, the Ultima 8 OTA, who you’ve read about many times if you frequent this blog, hadĪlways been a good performer. Why did I buy a new telescope to go with the new mount? At Actually I ordered Celestron’s Edge 800 SCT/ AVX Before spring 2013 was out I ordered the new successor to I was also addicted to the Celestron NexStar hand control and didn’t want to To get a mount as similar to the CG5 both in weight and capability (and price) as possible. Myself into a tizzy over the choices, I decided the best thing for me would be Include the Losmandy G11 and the iOptron CEM60. I initially considered a wide range of mounts, especially to WithĮarly retirement in the offing in 2013, I also wanted to ensure any necessaryĪstronomical gear purchases were taken care of while I was still working Why? I wanted a new mount mostly because my CG5 was approaching ten years old,Īnd I wasn’t quite sure how much longer the inexpensive rig would go. Clear skies.About four years ago, I began thinking about a replacementįor my then most used rig, a 1995 Celestron Ultima 8 SCT tube riding on theĬompany’s Advanced GT (CG5) telescope mount, a medium-light, computer-equipped GEM. My hope is this discussion may help someone else. Who has time to document the requirements of the EKOS and PHD2 dance? PHD2 will think it is in standalone mode. EKOS is the starting point of the CCD dance. CCD devices must be configured to be CCD and not OTA types. To use the INDI CAMERA option, EKOS must have CCD devices to present. Under PHD2, the QHY5 is no longer standalone supported. Once done, EKOS and PHD2 can dance all night. Hence, my success was configuring EKOS properly to give PHD2 its list to enumerate the CCD options in EKOS. On each camera option, I configured the device as camera and saved the configuration. Under EKOS, CCD device types are considered by default under OPTIONS tab SCOPE or CAMERA. What started me down this path was the connect button experience was yielding PHD2 thinking it was in standalone mode and EKOS thinking it had connected.

PHD2 documentation says INDI CAMERA is the software bridge head to accept from EKOS what EKOS has. A bridge must be established under the CONNECT button in EKOS with PHD2.

Its stock driver support is limited to 6 devices. PHD2 can operate independently from EKOS. My post was seeking answers with this connection dance between EKOS and PHD2. Everything is working when DEVICE PORT is blank.
#Cloudynights qhy polemaster for mac trial#
Under LINUX, INDI, and PHD2, my trial results says, Leave it blank. Under ASCOM, (all PHD2 documents are ASCOM focused), DEVICE PORT is COMn. I researched the net for what goes into DEVICE PORT. Within this configuration, DEVICE PORT is the singular option blank. With the QHY5LII selected, I was presented with a configuration page to get PHD2 and INDI to talk with each other as I was expecting. Under INDI camera, I received a beautiful pick list of all of the available CCD cameras as I was expecting. The other hill to climb is the CONNECT Camera button. I finally received the promised INDI Camera option within PHD2. PHD2 must be running before the EKOS button click. The CONNECT to PHD2 is the start of the Dance. I was able to get the dance between EKOS and PHD2 working last night.
